日本医史学会＠奈良女子大学で発表して参りました

週末に、日本医史学会@奈良女子大学で発表をして参りました。

「1890年代の英米ニ誌が報じた日本人女性の自立自助的医療：盲人按摩・家庭内灸療・出産」

New Woman（新しい女性）、Progreasive Era （進歩主義時代）の旋風が巻き起こっていた英米両国の目には、日本の女性盲人が経済的自立を果たしていたこと、女性が広く灸を嗜み家庭内医療を実践していたことが、輝かしく映ったのではないか？との内容でした。

鍼灸師仲間数名が駆けつけてくれたり、会場に「この発表を楽しみにしていました」と声をかけて下さる方がいたりと、とても充実した発表となりました。

来年の横浜での学会では、瘀血（おけつ）の歴史について発表しようかな、と考えています。 スライドのデータを、note（ブログ）にアップロードしました。

Last weekend, I presented at the Japanese Society of Medical History conference at Nara Women’s University.

My presentation: “Self-Reliant Healthcare Practices of Japanese Women as Reported in British and American Journals in the 1890s: Blind Massage Practitioners, Home-Based Moxibustion, and Childbirth”

During the era of the New Woman movement and the Progressive Era sweeping through Britain and America, Japanese women’s achievements must have appeared remarkable—blind women achieving economic independence, and women widely practicing moxibustion for home healthcare.

I was deeply moved when several acupuncturist colleagues came to support me, and audience members told me they had been looking forward to my presentation. It was truly a fulfilling experience.

For next year’s conference in Yokohama, I’m considering presenting on the history of oketsu (blood stasis). I’ve uploaded the slide data to the blog service (in Japanese).
